The FLW armchair is part of a special collaboration between SCP and Japanese brand Ishinomaki Laboratory. The collection marks ten years since the Great Eastern Japan earthquake and tsunami with an exhibition of new furniture designs from Ishinomaki Laboratory, the Japanese DIY furniture company founded in the immediate aftermath of the 2011 disaster.
The FLW chair is inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water house with its strong vertical and horizontal volumes and the idea of ‘floating tatami chair’. The name references the house and the great architect who spent many productive years in Japan in the early 20th century.
